Private Financing of Higher Education and Democracy: The Case of Tanzania and Kenya
- Projektleiter: Victoria Makulilo
"Following the implementation of liberal policies of markets; financing of higher education was reviewed to include all stakeholders. The new policy requires students and their families to contribute to the costs of education. Obviously, students from low income families are limited to access such commercialized higher education if they are not assisted financially.
Most governments including Tanzania and Kenya established loans schemes to assist students from low income families to access higher education. however, the African environment – inadequate information about economic status of students and their families coupled with the problem of verification have paralyzed the efficiency of loans scheme. Therefore the study was set to examine the extent of the impact of private financing of higher education through a comparative study of Tanzania and Kenya. Most similar systems design was used to explain why the impact is so apparent in Kenya than in Tanzania"
