Welcome to the Department of Development Sociology in Bayreuth

The development sociology in Bayreuth is closely linked to other sociological research projects and course programmes. It also forms part of the interdisciplinary programme of African Studies at the University of Bayreuth. It is integrated into Institute of African Studies and the International Graduate School of African Studies. Furthermore, the department of development sociology contributes to the “Centre of Natural Risks and Development” that is currently being established.

Africa is also the focus of the teaching programmes. Development sociology is a key component of the doctoral programme BIGSAS as well as the BA and MA programmes “Applied African Studies, Culture and Society in Africa”.
